Early in the morning we got a new member to our family! A Smooth haired Ibizan - Special Acre's Spanish Eyes de Tekoneva, "Hissu"- came to live with us as a part of our family.

July 2009

Since we lost Tossa our life had been rather silent and blue. Hissu brought the joy to all of us. Even Tupla has become more lively and playful after Hissu came to us. We like so much to do things with our new family member and with Tupla, of course. It's so difficult to concentrate on any other things in the world...

It's our intention to rearrange and update our website. It may take a little time becouse we and the webmaster are rather busy during the latter part of this summer.

15.2.2009

Tupla and Minni had a nice and succesful trip to Tallinn, Estonia. Tupla got her fifth CACIB and became an International Champion.

OCTOBER 08

On 13th October we have said our goodbyes to Tossa.

Tossa's condition had deteriorated little by little during this year and we decided to let her sleep. That wasn't an easy decision but we didn't want her to suffer from the total collapse of her capability of moving.

13.-14.9 Jaana and Anki visited us.

Anki is a tiny, lively and agile podenco-mix. She stands 40 cm at the withers and her weight is about 10 kg. Erkki's sister Jaana adopted her from Spain. Anki really loves every two-legged but she's a little reserved with new dogs.

Like our girls Anki is also very eager in hunting for mice and voles. We went together to search for voles by the roadside at a local industrial area. During two hours they were digging and searching and Tupla managed to get seven, Anki three and Tossa two voles!



AUGUST 08

Minni and Kaisa made a long cycling tour to shore of the Arctic Ocean. They started their tour on the 19th of July and it took three weeks. During that time they rode their bikes with trailers over 900 km.

There are long and steep ascents and downhills and the wind is extremely strong and cold in Northern Norway. Biking in Varanger - It's hard work, but the experience is fabulous and unforgettable.

JULY 08

"Tupla hurt her front leg when she made a high jump to thicket. There was a sharp object among the dense hay and twigs and Tupla got a deep wound in her wrist.

The wound was operated and stitched up by the vet. Because the wound was just in her wrist and not in her pad, it wasn't very difficult or impossible for her to walk during the convalescence.

Now she's OK and we can enjoy the walks and vole hunting again."'

APRIL 08

6.4.

During the past winter we have slept and eaten well! Tossa has already a long time been an old woman and Tupla is not a teenager anymore! During the wintertime Tupla is extremely lazy and comfort-loving. When April comes and the sun melts the ice and snow, Tupla starts to live again!

Titta with her nine months old Inka visited us today. You can find some photos of us all in a new gallery. Both of our girls were kind to the crawling and noisy little quest.

Tossa has always loved and enjoyed children but we were surprised how calmly also Tupla took that situation. She has although been a little shy and reserved with strange people and things.

APRIL 07

During the winter we have also done blood tracking and tracking with tuna fish. Later we are going to tell you more about that hobby with pictures of course.

9.12.06 We made a blood trail first time for both of our girls.

Summary of our first self-made blood tracking

Weather: Light winds, drizzly rain
Trail: We made a narrow line of blood pouring it from the bottle, in the moist grass, approximately 20 meters long, at the end of the trail curved to the right. We let the trail age for 20 minutes

Short descriptions of their performances:

TOSSA
thinking, wondering, sniffing with exactness, very slowly and carefully forward, in the middle of the trail she decided to pee on it, momentary enervation but then back to the trail, curve, finding the prize

TUPLA
Eye contact first, the word "Trail", fast forward, continueing straigt line when the trail started to curve and she hurried past the prize, few meters extra circle and finally back to the prize. Everything happened very fast.

9.-12.3.07 Minni spent a short but interesting and joyful time in England. She visited the famous Dog Show in Crufts with her two friends. They also had a little bit time to go sightseeing in London.

10.3.07 While Minni was in England I took Tupla in Winter Coursing. That Coursing wasn't a complete success at all... Tupla succeeded in her first start very well, but in the final start she decided to choose the route of her own. She took a short cut across the field and you could say that she was waiting for the lure at the finish.
That's a common problem when your dog is an experienced coursing dog and it has run several times on the same field area during its career.

Tossa has still been in stable health - no bigger problems with her neck during this year. You can see by her appearance that she isn't a young lady anymore. Although, she is very lively, happy and always eager to go for a walk anytime -no matter about the bad weather etc.

OCTOBER 06

In the beginning of October Minni, her friend Kaisa and a small group of other Finnish travelers spend two weeks in MONGOLIA.

They travelled across that large but sparsely populated country by an old Russian "Jeep". They had a local driver and a guide from Finland. During that journey they lived completely nomadic life in Gobi desert: They slept in gerrs with local families, ate with them their traditional foods, rode with camels and Mongolian horses, climbed those amazing dunes. They also visited different museums considering Genghis Khan, dinosaurus bones, fossils etc. You can believe, that time was something special to Minni - something she'll always remember. People there was extremely friendly and happy and the landscape was something incredible.

During that time Erkki took care of Tossa and Tupla without any problems. They adapted to that situation pretty well - although Tossa is so attached to Minni.

SEPTEMBER 06

Minni has trained Agility basics with Tossa and Tupla. We set up self-made weave poles in our back yard and both of our girls was quick to learn the name of this game. Tupla found the idea quicker and easier and she managed to complete this obstacle much faster than Tossa. BUT after a while she wasn't so interested in that anymore.

Tossa is very careful and reliable with those poles time after time - at slow walking pace. Once again you can find a difference between them.

5.7.06

After a silent period on our website (but a busy and demanding time in our work) we finally have made some updates.

Late winter, 8th April, Minni, Titta and Tupla were hiking across the neighbouring rural districts of our town. They walked along the hiking route called St. Birgitta's Trail. A new picture gallery is made about pictures they have taken during that day. As you can see in those pictures there still was a lot of snow although it was the beginning of April.

The second new gallery consists of miscellaneous portraits taken during the spring 2006.

The scene of the European Lure Coursing Championships 1.- 2.7 was Mustiala in Finland. Of course, Tupla also took part in the Finnish team. It's fine that Tupla has got many equal competitors. Competitions have been very tight and exiting this summer.

23.3.06

Both of our girls took part in an official health examination considering eyes, elbows and hips. Everything is OK. You can find the complete results under the headlines "About Tossa / About Tupla".

11.-12.3.06

Tupla was shown in Lithuanian Winner Show and managed to become a Lithuanian CH. Minni, Arja, Tupla, Edo and P2 travelled by a chartered bus together with some other Finns and their show dogs. Edo was BOB.

1.3.06

On January and February we have led a quiet life. During the coldest week we hardly went outside the door at all. We were staying inside and relaxing and went out only when it's necessary.

We and the dogs have rested much but we have also given mental exercises to them. (Clicker training, hiding treats etc.)

Now when the spring is about to begin and there is more sunlight during a day, we have gradually started to wake up again and we spend much more time outside every day.

19.11.05

Tupla was entered for the international dog show in Jyväskylä. Minni is always very careful and makes everything ready during the previous evening. So, she started to drive to Jyväskylä (about 180 km) early in the morning of the show day. I stayed at home with Tossa.

After driving two hours, once she had arrived at Jyväskylä she noticed that Tupla's vaccination certificate and other stuff like that were at home. Not a very typical Minni's mistake! So, Tupla was not shown in Jyväskylä.

Minni didn't get angry at all about that mistake. They spent a nice day in Jyväskylä city. Many people started to smile when Tupla was walking in her red coat along the pedestrian street.

LURE COURSING TRIAL IN NORWAY

Minni, Tupla, Arja & Ziggy made a quick visit to Norway. They started their travelling early on Saturday morning and on Monday evening they were back in Finland again. Tupla and Ziggy were entered to the lure coursing trial in Ås, Norway 9.10.

The Norwegian track was demanding and LONG - almost one kilometer - containing vertical intervals. So, we are very proud of our little athlete because she managed to reach the CC and also became the Norwegian lure coursing champion. Her points were 87,25 and she was BIF-3 in that trial.

HOLIDAY ON A LONELY ISLAND

We spent a relaxing holiday in a complete peace of the wilderness, on a little island without neighbours. It didn't take more than one hour to drive from our home to that peaceful island. Of course we took hundreds of photos during those days. Some chosen pictures and a little story are going to be published soon.

This website has been our slowly developing project during the summer 2005. Now we are thinking that it has become ready enough for publishing.
Special thanks to our professional webmaster, Janne. He has been patient enough to carry out our meticulous plans and wishes and he has succeeded in building a website that looks just like us.

So, please feel you welcome to browse our photo albums and read our writings. After a short thinking we decided to build our website in English although it isn’t our native language. I guess there are many grammatical mistakes in our English writings but we are definitely sure that more people can understand our “homemade” English better than Finnish!

“Tupla the Legend” managed to win the Finnish Championships in lure coursing. Seven Ibizan hounds took part in that competition.

Tupla achieved the best Finnish lure coursing result for an Ibizan hound up to now: 541 points."

5.6.2005

Tupla was attacked by an adder. She got the snake bite to her left fore leg. The vet ordered her antibiotics and rest. She was rather tame during a couple of days and her leg was thick and tender.

Three days later she although wanted to go out looking for voles and her leg has become well again.
